Jewels of Silver Lake

Jewels of Silver Lake (JOS) is a jewelry making business comprising a group of six (6) young ladies from a community in Dominica called Silver lake. The ladies were trained between 2011-2013 during a training program which was started by an American lady along with her husband, who saw the need for engaging unemployed, single mothers in an area of craft which would empower them to earn a living for themselves and their families.

The jewelry business is now run by Esther Belleau, Janet Belleau, Glenoka Daniel, Barbara Mills, Sherma Mills and Shirley Toussaint, who all live in the Silver Lake community in Copthall, Dominica. The group of ladies are now trained to design and make their own jewelry using beads, wire, stringing material and local material like sea glass and river stones. The product lines range from necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings, as well as key-rings made from the tagua nut, sourced from Honduras.

Janet Belleau, who has a keen interest in sales, generally sells the jewelry and key rings at various craft fairs as well as at CoCoRico, a shop in Roseau.
