Owned by Artisan, Albert Casimir, Albert Casimir’s Craft specializes in carvings and jewelry. My carvings vary from small to large pieces made from various types of wood found in Dominica, such as mahogany, blue mahaut, and bodimere. My jewelry pieces comprise necklaces with pendants made from carved wood, cow horn, cow bone, calabash, palm seeds, coconut, coral and shells as well as matching earrings made from the above materials.
I started my craft from a very tender age, having had a passion for making things from wood. This passion led me to be part of a training program hosted by the Youth Division in 1990. The training program involved techniques in the proper handling and sharpening of tools, and the proper selection of materials for carving. I continued to further my skills and my product lines over the years, which has resulted in a tasteful selection of jewelry and carvings using locally-sourced natural materials.
My craft is sold along the cruise ship berth, at the island’s main market in the capital, Roseau, as well as at various craft fairs and in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
