Annie’s Craft & Souvenirs is a craft business owned by Artisan, Annita Watty. My business specializes in locally made bags, hats, dolls, jewelry, tie-dyed t-shirts, wines & confectionary.
My bags and hats are of various designs and are made primarily with Dominica’s local fabric called madras. My dolls are all “outfitted” with our own dried banana leaves, breadfruit leaves, cane straw, loofah sponge and “bois cannou” to give them that earthy look. My jewelry designs are hand-made using local seeds and pods as well as leather.
Having been married to a farmer and working on a farm, I got my inspiration for my craft business from the nature surrounding me. I started experimenting with dried leaves for decorating my dolls and making flowers, which led me to various skills training programs. This enhanced my creativity and propelled my business forward.
My craft is sold mainly to visitors at the Resource Centre in the north-eastern village of Wesley, where I live, at the Roseau market and at various craft fairs around the island.
